Humbaba definitely compares with the monster figures in the Beowulf epic. Humbaba and Grendel are both demons who seem to have been exiled from the human race for their wrong doings. They have many animal-like attributes, but in my eyes a type of ape or monkey with claws that can easily go through something with no struggle. They don't express any fear towards anyone or anything, but instead cause fear to the people with their actions and horrifying figures. They seem to come from some type of evil and look grotesque and monstrous like satan in a way since they have some of his attributes. They have the claw-looking hands, pointy teeth, and evil face. They both are out there with the goal to kill and cause death. They are an enemy to the human race and their societies.

The comparison between Humbaba and monsters in beowulf is that they are monstrous giants. They believe they can own any land and killing people for it is right. Humbaba the guardian of cedar forest where the gods used to live dosent allow anyone to be their so he puts his guard up kills people if he has too because he believes he own's the property. The monster in beowulf that his name is grendel attacking the mead hall Heorot and killing and eating anyone who he finds there. These two monsters basically want to take over land and at first they do succed but toward the end they are vanquished and go away. Those are comparisons between them.

Like Grendal in Beowulf, Humbaba was successfully killed. Before there deaths, they both showed human related traits. They are both portrayed as pathetic, comic, and scary.

Humbaba and the monstrous characters of Beowulf are comparable because they are bother in the world spreading fear to the people around them. They are both set out to kill & they don't look at it as a bad thing. They don't show that they are afraid, they're "tough". They both also seem like something that came out of the devil by how they are described.
